Linear Equations
This term we have been working on Linear Equations. This is my fourth time writing out this blog post and I am really over it. Blogger, stop deleting my work. I'm not going to lie, I have even less of a clue what's going on than usual. Anyways, We had to make an 'animal' that 'grew' overtime. I decided to do a block person because I thought that it would be easier. I was wrong. After a long time of experimenting with different numbers and driving myself up the wall, I had concluded that nothing was working and I ultimately had to give up. Fast forward tik the next maths session, someone solved the equation in less than five minutes. Turns out, I was multiplying and I should have been adding. So, here is the fruit of my labour.
To be fair, I did figure out I needed to add, just not in the right pattern.
a+(a+4)+28
A=Age28 is the head, arms, and legs
S= How any blocks altogether

E-Astle Writing Practice
This is my E-Astle writing practice. I had 45 minutes to write this and it's definitely not the best. But
I hope you enjoy it. If you have any suggestions feel free to comment them!
“The Christchurch government was founded in…”

“The Christchurch government was founded in…”
I feel my brain leaking from my skull, who decided that the history of Christchurch was an important
subject? Sure, culture might be important, but that’s not his point. I slap my book closed,
ignoring the scandalized look of the other students around me. I rub my hands down my face and sigh.
My phone lights up, my timer. I stand up, slinging my bag over my shoulder and set off toward the
front desk.

“Hello, Will. How can I help you?” The librarian said without looking up.
“Uh hi, Mrs L, I’m looking for the… uh the book on the government history of NZ? Do you have anything
like that here?”

“Oh, yes. It’s in the back. You’re a trustworthy young man so can you can save me a bit of time by
getting it?”
getting it?”
“Of course!” I exclaim setting off
“Will!” Mrs L calls
“Yeah?”
“Do you even know what section the book is in?” She says, looking down through her glasses with
a barely contained smile.
a barely contained smile.
“No, But I’ll find it!” I set off, once again, with a cheerful smile on my face. A complete 180 from just
a few minutes ago.
a few minutes ago.
It turns out, the basement library is gargantuan. A maze of thousands of dis-organised shelves
criss-cross together in a dizzying pattern. I sigh, thinking I definitely should have asked where it was.
I shuffle my way through towering stacks of books and towards the back of the knowledge maze.
My bag bouncing on my hip with each step.

I reach the end of the maze, feeling like I've just finished a quest. I chuckle to myself at the thought.
I reach down and pull the small book out from one of the low shelves. Man, everything back here is
covered in a thick layer of dust, coating everything and giving it a ghostly feel. I shiver, despite not
being particularly cold in my hoodie. I slide the book in my bag and turn around. A few books fall
off the tops of the tallest stacks, I shrug and chalk it up to me disrupting everything. The ground
starts rolling, subtle at first and building up in small waves. More books fall and I cover my head.

Oh no, I think, panic starting to cloud my vision. I start to run toward where I vaguely remember
the exit being. I stumble into something solid and fall backward.
the exit being. I stumble into something solid and fall backward.
“Hey!” The solid thing yells. “Get up and get out, you idiot!”
It’s a student, I don’t recognise their face but I do recognise their voice. It’s Ethan Harding,
infamous throughout the entire school for his abrasive personality and his top-of-the-class grades.

“Move!” He yells as I scramble to my feet. Books are falling everywhere and shelves detaching
themselves from the ground. I feel like I’m on a boat, waves rumbling sturdy under my feet.
I throw myself through the battlefield of knowledge with Ethan running alongside me, I can hear his
laboured panting. My legs start to burn when I hear creaking.
I look up and the wooden ceiling beams are cracking, long lines cutting through the roof’s support. Ethan is falling behind, slowed down by the numerous twists and turns of the basement room. I
grab his arm and pull his forward, now basically dragging him along with me.

Not long after the shaking increased, throwing us both off our feet and onto the hard floor.
There are still pages flying everywhere, like violent birds taking flight. There’s crashing coming from
all sides.

“We’re almost out!” I yell, hoping Ethan can hear me, I can’t see him anywhere in the no-mans-land
that is now the downstairs library. A large pile of books and shelving move out of sync to the
earthquake, a muffled shout that is inaudible through the screeching of the room comes from within.
It’s Ethan! I think, managing to stay on balance over to him. I start pulling the wreckage off him. The
shaking is stopping. Dulled down into small shudders of the floor.
Ethan is scrambling to get out, and I see one of his skinny hands poke through the side of the pile.
I grab it and for the second time today I’m pulling him along.

“Thanks” He mumbles, groaning and rubbing his back.
“No problem, bro,” I say, with my biggest smile
“Why on earth are you smiling, nerd? We’re completely trapped” He says, gesturing wildly the closed
off exit.
off exit.
“Oh my lord,” I say, finally taking in the damage of the room
Part of the roof had caved in, right over the stair leading into the main library. The basement must
be under the field, by the look of all the dirt and grass coming through the hole. There are cracks
all through the concrete walls and floor. It looks like a giant had come and shaken the entire room.
Everything was strewn everywhere throughout the ocean of books and broken wood.

“I’d say its a bit messed up,” I say under my breath
“Definitely, damn” Ethan grumbles.
“We need to get out of here and see if everyone’s okay”
“Yeah, Okay” He mumbles and turns toward the now covered exit
“Maybe we could try to dig through the rubble?” I suggest, coming to stand next to him
“We’ll make a tunnel and I’ll go through since I’m the smallest of us two,” He says, with an air of finality
“Then you can see if everyone’s fine and get help!” I say.
“Think about yourself for once, geez,” He says and goes up to the small mound. I grab a piece of
wood and hand one to Ethan. He grunts in acknowledgement and starts digging.

It takes a while to get through. But I’m not really sure of how much time has passed. It could have
been five minutes or five hours. Small tremors shook the room a few times, scaring us.
The tunnel we made is barely enough for the skinny teen to fit through, but he manages.

“I’ll be back,” He says, and crawled through toward the stairs. I’m alone, and the darkness is suddenly
more enveloping now that I’m alone. The jagged edges of broken shelving jutting out from every
surface of the room, backlit by the small light that comes from one corner of the room. I venture over
toward the light, eager to get out of the dark. I’m not sure when Ethan will be coming back, but I may
as well get comfortable, right?

The light is warm and coming from underneath sheets. A hut? It’s a legitimate hut, half-collapsed, but still
a hut nonetheless.
One that you make in the lounge when you’re a kid. It feels safe, kinda. I crawl inside and settle among
blankets. It’s like the perfect reading cave. It occurs to me that this is probably Ethan’s hut. I chuckle
silently. It’s funny that such an angry guy would still be making huts in his teen years. I grab my phone
from my bag, It’s cracked, the screen completely shattered. Huh, probably from my fall earlier. I put it back
in my bad and pull out my drink bottle, which is somehow still intact, and take a sip.

I’m coming down from my adrenaline high when suddenly everything starts shaking again.
Not coming in slow lulling waves like the last one. It strikes like lightning. Pushing the ground up from
beneath my feet and pulling me backwards. I yelled in surprise and fall over, rolling along the floor in
the now fully broken hut. I’m on the ground, gripping my knees so tightly I think it’s going to draw blood
when the earthquake, as soon as it came, went. I stay on the ground, tears rolling down my face. I
wasn’t scared when the first one hit. Maybe it was because I had Ethan there, aggressively telling me
it would be okay, in his own weird way.

I open my dry eyes to yelling. It’s Ethan, calling my name. I vaguely wonder why he knows my name

Radiohead goes Live!
Our inquiry this term has been focused on Media. We had three different types of media to choose from, Print media, Online Media, and Swamp Media. Print Media was Newspaper and reporting, I'm actually not sure what online media did, and Swamp media is radio broadcasting. I chose radio because I thought it would be the most interesting, I think I was right in my decision. Monet and I chose a subject and wrote a script. We had LOADS of technical difficulties when we first started out, but with practice and determination, we got there in the end. Our topic was interviewing. We selected people from all across our school and asked them questions related to their age. We also had a live performance of an original song!
Here is the link to our radio broadcast, If you wanted to have a listen.

Talent Show
Hello, I'm going to be posting about the school Talent Show. On Wednesday, My class had a talent show, you could do whatever you wanted, as long as it was appropriate for school. Two groups did TikTok dances. Another two people did separate comedy acts and two solo singers. Addison C came third with her hilarious comedic genius, Felix came second singing Shallow, By Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, surprisingly, I came first with the original song I had composed the night before! I sung and played the guitar. I have never felt so nervous in my life! I was truly (Sorry this sounds pretty melodramatic) baring my soul in that song. I felt so proud of it though and I had so much fun singing it. I honestly love the feeling of performing. That's all I can share from this week, but I'll be posting next week about some of the other cool things I did this week. Comment below, What is your talent?

Google Doodles
For the past few weeks, our hub has been working on Google Doodles. For this task, we were given a randomised subject and had to do a drawing that related to the subject. I got Valentine's Day for the bottom one, and I chose to do an Aquatic theme for my second one, which was completely optional to do. The drawings themselves should still be able to be identified as google's logo, even if loosely based on the original.

Self-Expression Through Appearance in Schools
This term in literacy, our main focus has been debating. We first started off with learning what debate is and the rules surrounding one. That sparked our interest in the subject. We chose a topic that caught our interest, mine is Self-Expression Through Appearance in Schools. For my debate, I’ve chosen to provide information on both sides. I think this topic is really important because appearance is a really big factor for a person’s self-esteem. My main points are focused on, Piercings, Make-up, and Hair Colour. A person’s appearance is one of their ways of expressing themselves, and I think that it should be allowed to a certain degree. I’ve also provided evidence that some types of appearances shouldn’t be allowed in school. I will be presenting my debate in the form of a video essay. Have you ever done a debate?

A small peice of my narrative draft
I'm obviously not proud of this, I've not been doing my best work recently. This is a small part of my narrative draft. I've not finished the full draft, so be expecting that in about a week. It's rather angsty, I'm not sorry. I know this has literally no context at all, but it will make sense soon (I hope) If you have any suggestions on how to change it please comment! I enjoy reading constructive criticism. It is just a draft so please don't be too harsh, lol.
Whenever I had to go out I was met with at least four people’s disappearance. Nobody seemed to notice the small raven-haired child screaming on the street. That discovery was hard on me, knowing I was ending people’s lives really took its toll. I was weak, physically and mentally. I was afraid to go out. My mind had aged thousands of years beyond what it was. I barely ate anymore, I hardly ever slept, I was depressed. At night my mind racing with thousands of horrific thoughts. It was poison, I poisoned myself continuously, I tried telling myself that it wasn't my fault. But the demons always won that fight My hair would stick up from tossing and turning all night. But for once, my bedraggled appearance was the least of my worries.

Frozen Climates can Kill
This is the story I've been working on for school. We challenged ourselves to write about adventures in a frozen climate. It's about two 'animals rescuers or vets' of sorts, they're doing a 'mission' on animals that live in a freezing climate, I couldn't find a way to portray the character the way I wanted. It's incredibly short, also quite rushed and unedited. This is honestly the worst quality writing I think I've done in years, I'm not proud of it at all. But anyways, tell me what you think and anyway I could improve.

Dramatic sweeps of ice rushing in breathtaking curves. Curling around melting rivers in impossible arcs.
It’s beautiful, to say the least. So unbelievable that words fail me. It seems worlds apart from anything I’ve ever seen in my entire life. So alien, so piercingly cold, so stupefying. Wavy landscapes littered with high peaks and low dents. Everything coming together to form this perfectly imperfect planet of staggering ice. So alluring and captive, pulling everything in and correcting its flaws. I stand, breathless staring over the landscape below me. I’m awestruck, a look of pure admiration on my face.
“So the resident grump has finally found something he likes,” A jovial voice says from behind me.
I scowl and stalk off, hands in my pockets. The man behind me just laughs and follows.
Comfortable silence envelopes us,
“So what’s so special about this polar bear?” I ask, professionalism lacing my voice.
“She’s recently been abandoned by her mother, she’s also experiencing some trauma with all the ice melting”
His face turns serious, wiped the smile. We continue to walk,
“Did she fall in or something?”
“Yeah, we found her dripping wet and in an almost in hypothermic shock” His eyes are downcast.
He must really sympathise with the bear, “Well she’s in good hands now!” He exclaims excitedly. I scoff,
my breath rising in clouds.
“Of course she is, our team is the best of the best” I mutter
“Awww, do you actually think that we're a team?” He teases
“What?! No! Shut up!” I huff. His seal bark laugh echoing across the open plane.
They walk in companionable silence.
A high pitched wail breaks their lazy small talk.
“What the hell was that?!” I yell
“I’m not sure,” He replies, already sprinting toward the sound. I’m immediately behind him.
Our bodies reacting before our brains. I see high spikes of ice surrounding a small area like a cage,
he carefully removes a small portion of it to get inside. He slips through the window and out of sight.
“It's a baby seal!” He yells from the depth of the ice prison “It’s trapped under some fallen ice”
I can hear him shifting around and talking to the animal in hushed tones.
There's a rumble, a low sound that would go unnoticed to the untrained ear. My heart leaps out of my chest.
“WATCH OUT!” I yell, he turns around his eyes wide with shock. I grab his arm and pull.
Thousands of icicles rained upon his friend skimming off his arms. I
somehow manage to pull him through the small hole. He rolls over on the ice, revealing
a small baby seal in his arms, a huge grin on his stupid face.
“You idiot” I scoff, secretly happy he didn’t die.
“Well, that was interesting,” He said, sitting up and cradling the small animal. I hold out one hand and yank
him off the ground.
“Thanks” He laughs, awkwardly, his free hand running through his hair. The seal is silent,
probably shocked by the ordeal
“Are you hurt?” I say, scowling.
“Nope!” He exclaims.
“What about the seal?”
“We’ll see when we get back, but from what I can see no serious inquiries”
“That was really stupid, going in there without checking the condition of the ice”
“I know,” He says sheepishly. I scoff once again, and grab his wrist, pulling him forward. We
continue to walk back. Those two idiots were really lucky to make it out of
that situation without serious injuries.

Dialouge Practice
Chris looked up from the map over his glasses at his brother, “Christ, Jay. Is it necessary to make thirteen stops?”
“Yes,” Jay said without looking up from the tv screen.
“It’s only a two-day trip!”
“And your point is?” Jay smirked. “If I'm going to be trapped in a car with you for two days I at least want to make some stops”
Chris let out an exasperated sigh and slumped face down on his suitcase.
“It’s gonna take forever to get to Brighton,” He whined.
“Shhh,” Jay answered standing up and shutting down his console.
“Can we at least negotiate on this matter?”
“No. So shut your mouth, dork.”
The younger boy slaps a hand to his forehead groaning “We’ve got four days until we need to be there-”
“Why’re we even going to this dude’s wedding?” Jay cuts off. Flopping down on the couch next to the redhead.
“He’s my best friend! I’m the best man!” He sits up, affronted.
“Geez man, what’s got your pants in a twist?” Jay lazily responded
“They're not-”
“I know, its coz’ you're hopelessly in love with a man who’s only ever seen you as a friend.” He snaps his fingers.
Chris gapes, mouth hanging open, “Wa-no-Pfft, Where did you hear-” He stutters.
“Calm down, I was joking, You spatula” Jay laughs, opening his suitcase and tossing his gaming console inside haphazardly. The boy is still speechless, staring at the floor. Jay laughs again and scoops some clothes off the floor at random, dropping most of them in the process of dumping into his suitcase. Chris stands up and picks up some bright red suspenders from the top of his brother’s ‘Packing’
“When are you planning on wearing these?” He says with a smirk
“At the wedding, Duh” Jay sarcastically replies, his gruff voice echoing off their walls.
Chris picks up a crumpled shirt, smoothing it out and folding it neatly,
“Here,” He said handing it to his brother.
“Thanks, nerd,” Jay says. Then dumps it unceremoniously into his rumpled suitcase. “Want a sandwich?”
“Uh, sure, thanks.” Jay stomps out of their small room. Chris starts folding and packing all of Jay’s stuff ‘correctly’ as he would say. Jay would call him a neat-freak or perfectionist. The redhead chuckles to himself in the silence of the room.
Jay returns, two sandwiches in hand.
“Should we go then?” Chris says, zipping up his brother’s bag and handing it to the taller boy.
“Sure” Jay replies, swinging his bag over his shoulder and walking out of the door.
“Wait! Do you even have everything?” Chris calls after him.
“Calm down, nerd. I’ve got everything I need, snacks, my phone, headphones and a charger, and my great looks.”
“Good,” The smaller boy nervously wrung his hands and distracted them by picking up his bag. They get into their small car.
“Shotgun!” Jay says running toward the passenger's seat. Chris climbs in and puts his seatbelt on.
“Wait! Did we lock the door?”
“Yes!” Jay says, throwing the keys at his little brother and reclining back.
“That wasn’t very nice…”
“Dammit, I sat on my bloody sandwich!”
Chris just laughs, pulling out of their driveway. “Brighton here we come!”
“Dork,” Jay mutters shoving the aux cord into his phone.

Random Oneshot from my Narrative
The cold was starting to get to them. Mara looked across at the redhead, noting the soft pigmentation spreading across her nose and cheeks. Mara huffed, stomping her feet, her breath swirled and dissipated in front of her eyes. Kairi laughed at the sulking blonde "C'mon!" She begged, tugging at the taller girl's jacket. Mara sighed and rolled her eyes "What the point in waiting here again?". Kairi laughed again, the smile lighting up her face and showing all of her pointy straight teeth.
"You look like freaking Dracula" Mara said, rolling her eyes. Kairi laughed, the sound gracing the Blonde's ears, Marta blushed then promptly dragged the other into the cafe. Kairi stretched her arms and took off her jacket, laughing. that sweet, bell-like laugh of hers. "Hey!" She said, placing her hand on Mara's jaw, pushing it upward "You're blushing!" She exclaimed.
"I AM NOT!" Mara stated, eyes wide and her body rigid from the redhead's touch "It's from the bloody cold!" She stated, twisting out of the smaller girl's grasp, sulking in her puffy jacket.
"You look really dumb, Ya know?" The redhead remarked.
"Tch" was the scowling reply. The blonde buried her face in her jacket, hiding the fiery blush covering her freckled features. Kairi just laughed at her sulking friend and continued to hang up her damp jacket.
